How we work
Wellbeing
Careful work is hard on eyes, backs and minds, and some of our work is harder than that. The program is built around three ideas: grade the work honestly, put the time for recovery inside the shift, and let anyone step away.
The program
- Content tiers
- S1, S2 and S3, set per project before work starts and shown on every task card
- Wellbeing time
- 2, 4 or 8 hours a month in the shift by tier, plus 10 minutes every hour in restricted rooms
- Counsellors
- 21 contracted counsellors, 12 in Nairobi and 9 in Manila, on site during both shifts and by phone for Rungwell at Home
- Check-ins
- A quarterly check-in with a counsellor for everyone on S2 and S3 work, and an exit conversation for anyone leaving a sensitive project
- Stepping away
- Anyone may leave a project, for any reason, without losing pay for the shift
- Ergonomics
- Adjustable chairs and monitor arms on site, an eye test every year, and a chair for Rungwell at Home labellers who ask
What labellers told us
In our 2025 annual survey, 71% of labellers said the program is good, and 44% said it is easy to use on a busy shift. We published both numbers in our Impact Report, and committed to an independent review.
The independent review
An independent review of the program, led by Dr. Moira Galbraith with Lucy Wanjohi and Dr. Carmela Robles, is under way. The panel is interviewing labellers, team leads, counsellors and managers at both centres and has run an anonymous survey open to everyone at Rungwell. It reports to the board by the end of the year, and we will publish what it finds. About the review.
